Galleria Biffi Arte - Piacenza
by Edoardo Di Mauro
The group selected by Edoardo Di Mauro, and proposed as the second exhibition session after a first edition held in October 2015 in the Turin premises of Maurizio Colombo Art Design, represents a cross-section of what the Curator defines as the "skipped artistic generation" of the years Eighties and nineties. A generation whose poetics are experiencing a phase of in-depth reinterpretation, generating a stylistic eclecticism in which painting, technology, installation, new materials, environmental soundtracks, ironic and unsettling use of the object and recycled materials merge. The "then" of the first post modernity, the result of the collapse of the ideological dimension, and the desire to give free rein to one's own personal creative charge, combined with the desire to intelligently revisit the paths of the twentieth-century avant-garde, confronting the post-industrial dimension of the "Society of the show" prefigured by the Situationists, establishes an ideal transmission belt with the "here" of the current scene, of which these artists, thanks to the armor of their own style and experience, manage to highlight miseries and magnitudes, denouncing the limits of reality without overlapping it, maintaining an attitude of lucid and disenchanted irony, and not losing the will to experiment, in the attempt, never extinguished, to create an enlarged aesthetic dimension. The seventeen artists present in what wants to be a first moment of deepening of the theme, cover a time span capable of understanding the entire span of the first phase of post-modernity, from the late seventies to the early nineties.
Susanna Gualazzini The Biffi Arte Gallery was born in Piacenza in 2009 thanks to the desire of the President of Formec Biffi, a leading company in the food sector, which in the creation of the Gallery testifies and keeps alive the historic link between the Biffi brand, Milan 1852 and the world of art: it was precisely around the tables of the Caffè Biffi, in fact, that Marinetti, Balla, Depero gave birth to the Futurist movement, which would have influenced so much culture of the twentieth century. Over the years Biffi Arte has transformed itself into a cultural center open to the expression of all the arts, placing itself as a meeting place between artists and the community, in search of a free and innovative culture. For this reason, in planning its activities, Biffi Arte cultivates a wide variety of initiatives promoting, alongside the setting up of exhibitions, conferences and meetings with philosophers, authors, critics and thinkers, special events, concerts and performances in collaboration with Italian institutions and foreigners. The Formec Biffi Arte company is part of Formec Biffi, a company with a Lombard heart but active on world markets. Oriented towards innovation and experimentation of taste, Formec Biffi has always looked with special attention to the world of art, finding in the sponsorship of the arts a privileged expressive territory for public initiatives offered to citizens. And the spirit that supports it is the principle by which companies can play a fundamental role in promoting and spreading culture, also and above all helping young artists to become protagonists of their time. "The strength of our Gallery lies in the partnership it manages to host: it is the meeting of the arts in the plurality of their languages, in search of transversal, unexpected, ever new paths. At this meeting, extraneous to the logic of profit, the doors of Biffi Arte will always be open ”Pietro Casella, founder and architect of Formec Biffi.
