Salone d'onore della Prefettura a Palazzo Natta - Novara
by Mario Finotti with text by Luigi Cerutti
The exhibition is the artist's first solo exhibition in his city; and for this reason it assumes a profound meaning, also for the relationship finally made explicit with its territory, in which it has always lived.
Precisely for this reason the exhibition project consists of a rather large and detailed path of his work which, from the beginning of the eighties, has allowed him to participate in exhibitions and without uncertainty defining himself as an artist. The exhibition will involve the spaces of the prefecture garden di Novara and the Council room. Outdoors Corrado Bonomi has decided to exhibit one of the most famous works that has expressed one of his poetic figures since the 1990s: Culture. Plastic plants assembled with materials that fall within the semantic and actual field of gardening - irrigation pipes, pots, saucers, protective greenhouse nets -, which in this double relationship between form and substance are constituted as open-air tautologies, continuous repetitions in which the substance (the plant) and the shape (the materials) perfectly match and, at the same time, maintain autonomy in meaning.
Then, within the Prefecture, a fairly complex and stratified process of works unfolds. We will meet the "New Arrivals", cetaceans that in the form of inadequate boats transport human beings, mostly colored emigrants; Godzilla, the correlative par excellence of Corrado Bonomi, an animal sacred to him which, like the clumsy Dodo or Big-Foot, represents a unique specimen and for this reason fearful and melancholic in its solitude; Mondo Operaio, a work with a social background that crystallizes reduces the planet by showing us the closeness and concordance of human fate, the resemblance of many of our lives; Fairy, fairy, fatal, one of the artist's most famous cycle of works, in which small déshabillé fairies find themselves trapped, victims of small distortions, of micro-existences that indulge and simultaneously undergo no escape; Fiume - Terdoppio a work proposed again here in Novara two decades after its conception: a series of sealed vases filled with Terdoppio's water, on whose glass Bonomi has re-painted the shape of the same river, relaunching the linguistic mechanism of the tautology - the same as for Cultures - and making a gesture that forces us to reflect on the nature of repetition: if I repeat something twice do I say the same thing?
Thus, the exhibition presents itself as a large network in which chronological, semantic and poetic reasons intertwine and through which it is possible to understand with due care and attention the reasons that founded Corrado Bonomi's work, which inspired him and which inspired him. today they make one of the most authentic and meaningful voices of contemporary times.
